I watched this really cool series on Netflix called "Abstract: The Art of Design". I've been a graphic designer since the 80's and I never knew there were "superstars" in design until just three or four years ago. I knew comic book publishers and letterers, but that was our little world. I didn't know the rest of the design world. I went to some trade shows and conferences for work, but they were just salespeople. Rarely do the designers get to go to events.
Watching the Paula Scher episode was like a light bulb went off and someone finally understood me. Holy crud, and she's a "SuperStar!" ...I owned that record, I have that thing in my wallet, everyday I see that sign, SHE CREATED THOSE! wow...
Here's the link to Youtube for the first season, https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKlziXe6_Tmn2CqU8dd5zAtY5voVNrHLQ
I recommend Paula Scher: Graphic Design (above)
Christoph Niemann: Illustration (below)
and coming from my Rock-N-Roll background Es Devlin: Stage Design astounded me.
This is a great series, exploring the creative arts and the diversity it offers for young creatives!
The 2nd series just recently dropped on Netflix, and I’m hoping they make it available on YouTube so we can continue to educate and foster and encourage divergent off the beat out of the box thinking.
Stay awesome, keep creating!
